Organization: collecting, grouping, and sharing stuff
Social Bookmarking
- Share and categorize web bookmarks
- Del.icio.us is probably most popular
- Not only way to share and categorize, but also great for discovering new things
- Can do some magic and feed these links on your website -- Linkrolls -- Make your lists of web resources work harder!
- Free
- Examples:
Tagging & Tag Clouds (visualization)
- 28% of internet users have tagged or categorized content online
- Tagging is essentially informal cataloging in terms that users create themselves
- Also known as a folksonomy
- Tags can also be viewed in clouds
- Tags that are in larger font and bold are more popular, well-used
- The smaller the tag, the more unique or less-used
- You can click on any tag in a cloud to be taken to information using that tag
- Examples:
Social "Cataloging"
- Subscribers enter books they own, tag them, rate them, review them, talk about them
- Social nature creates an extremely valuable tool
- LibraryThing
- over 16 million books cataloged by almost 250,000 members
- Free up to 200 books, unlimited books is $25/life
- Creates recommendations based on what people own
- Shelfari is another example
